Skinny Cars!!

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 2:20 PM

I wonder if these skinny cars are legal in the US? It looks like they can go 45 – 55 KPH, so about 35 MPH.  Not bad for a golf cart!

Exploding Toads: Solved! ... maybe ...

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 9:01 AM

As I posted the other day, Toads have been exploding in Hamburg! Well, here is a possible answer:

... it appears that a bird pecks into the toad with its beak between the amphibian's chest and abdominal cavity, and the toad puffs itself up as a natural defense mechanism.

But, because the liver is missing and there's a hole in the toad's body, the blood vessels and lungs burst and the other organs ooze out ...

Title: Exploding toads puzzle German scientists

BERLIN ? More than 1,000 toads have puffed up and exploded in a Hamburg pond in recent weeks, and scientists still have no explanation for what's causing the combustion, an official said Wednesday.

Both the pond's water and body parts of the toads have been tested, but scientists have been unable to find a bacteria or virus that would cause the toads to swell up and pop, said Janne Kloepper, of the Hamburg-based Institute for Hygiene and the Environment.

"It's absolutely strange," she said. "We have a really unique story here in Hamburg. This phenomenon really doesn't seem to have appeared anywhere before."

The toads at a pond in the upscale neighborhood of Altona have been blowing up since the beginning of the month, filling up like balloons until their stomachs suddenly burst.

"It looks like a scene from a science-fiction movie," Werner Schmolnik, the head of a local environment group, told the Hamburger Abendblatt daily. "The bloated animals suffer for several minutes before they finally die."

Biologists have come up with several theories, but Kloepper said that most have been ruled out.

The pond's water quality is no better or worse than other bodies of water in Hamburg, the toads did not appear to have a disease, and a laboratory in Berlin has ruled out the possibility that it is a fungus that made its way from South America, she said.

She said that tests will continue. In the meantime, city residents have been warned to stay away from the pond.

Weird.... Send me an email if you have a link or any further info!

Besides receiving a speeding ticket, Oaks was charged with driving on a suspended license.

He also received a drug paraphernalia violation after highway patrol officers found a pipe in the car. ... His license was suspended last year for a previous speeding ticket, according to Arizona Supreme Court records.

Oaks also pleaded guilty to reckless driving and drunken driving in Bowie Justice Court last year, records show. ... Oaks also was arrested twice last year and charged with possession of marijuana and robbery.

More Great links!

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 9:50 AM

Consider the first two the yin and yang of links;

Maddox's site (aka "The Best Page in the Universe") is dripping with sarcasm, irony, and pure disdain for anything he doesn't like. Worth checking out once a month or so for the humor that lies behind his posts.

Cockeyed.com is a fun filled site that I find rather light-hearted and refreshing.  It seems like there is always something interesting here.

Last but not least is Zug.com.  Humor site, has some pretty funny stuff, I will put one of my favorites from here up later today!

Smoking chimp who can't quit

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 7:40 AM

This is the full text of the article located at itv.com

A chimpanzee at a South African zoo is struggling to kick the habit after learning to smoke by mimicking visitors.

Charlie, a chimp at the Bloemfontein Zoo, has been picking up cigarettes thrown to him by visitors and smoking them. Zoo officials said he probably picked up the habit by observing humans.

"Baby chimps pick up habits by mimicking adults and we think he started mimicking smokers at his enclosure which probably led to smokers throwing him cigarettes," said spokesman Daryl Barnes.

Mr Barnes said Charlie was already showing the signs of a true nicotine addict: "He even acts like a naughty schoolboy by hiding the cigarette when staff approach the area."

Mr Barnes said that the zoo was determined to help him quit.

Ahh, Laura K Krishna

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 12:28 PM

Right off the bat, i must say that the Laura K Krishna thing is like a week old, all over the internet, and well, it all started at the week of kindness blog, which seems ironic since the whole thing is pretty mean spirited(but Just and fair), but what the heck, its pretty funny!

Alone, since the Laura K Krishna stuff is all over the net, i probably wouldn't have bothered to post it, but after seeing Eight Visions for Papal Eternity, I feel these guys are pretty darn funny, and the Laura K Krishna funnyness isn't just a fluke.
