My New Workout?

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 2:36 PM

Very cool yet unconventional workout: Shovelglove. Basically you take a sledgehammer and wrap it up in a sweatshirt then do "normal" work motions. It reminds me of the 300 workout, where you use natural human movements and resistance to work out.

I hate how the URL still says "team=sea" and the page says "Oklahoma City"

Weekly Tech Summary

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 10:16 AM

Internet

Several airlines are testing wireless Internet access on airplanes, with others planning to start testing soon. Early tests indicate that users can expect performance about the same as they would see in a coffee shop.

69.17% of Internet searches in the U.S. were on Google in June, up from 63.92% June 2007. Yahoo got 19.6%, down from 21.31%, and MSN got 5.46%, down from 9.85%.

Security

The Internet Storm Center estimates that it takes less than 5 minutes for an unpatched Windows PC to be attacked once it connects to the Internet. Another security project estimates that it takes about 16 hours for a PC to be attacked. Connecting an unpatched PC to the Internet to download patches will probably not patch the PC fast enough to protect it.

Business

Adeona is a free laptop tracking service that can provide the IP address of a missing laptop that has connected to the Internet. Software on the laptop checks in with a server each time it connects to the Internet, so when the laptop goes missing, the owner can check with the server to get the laptop?s new IP address and information on the routers used to connect the laptop to the Internet.

Reviews

A look at 4 virtual machine products for PCs: VMWare Workstation, Virtual PC, VirtualBox, and QEMU. VMWare Workstation is the best overall, with VirtualBox close behind. Virtual PC is missing key features, and is falling behind. QEMU is for tinkerers.

A look at 3 online office application suites: Google Apps, ThinkFree, and Zoho. Because they are used via Web browser, they work on multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.). Google has the best word processor, Zoho Sheet is the best spreadsheet, and Zoho Show is the best presentation application. For some uses, they are a viable alternative to Microsoft Office.

PC vendors will still install Windows XP on a new PC, but their policies are not real consistent. In general, you have to buy a certain model of PC with Windows Vista Ultimate or Business, and the vendor will install Windows XP Pro. Some charge extra for the XP install.

First night back on cpap...

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 7:43 AM

Well, it was my first night back on my CPAP sleep machine.... and it was all right I guess. Im tired as hell at 7:45 this morning, as always, and I didn't go to bed that late last night, probably around 10:45. So, 9 hours of sleep. Guess we will see what happens as my hormones get used to real sleep.

On a separate note, John and I did our first review for 10yearreview.com, and I'm fairly excited about the premise of this site. I think it will be a lot of fun when we start throwing out reviews on a regular basis. I will give you a bit of insider info on one we want to do: power glove! It might be expensive to find an entire NES setup to goof off with it, but we really want to give it a shot.

Anyways, gotta get some work done, that's why they pay me!

What a Crazy Day!

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 3:25 PM

So where do I begin? The beginning? Well, today is the day I picked up my cpap machine, which will help alleviate my sleep apnea. They said i woke up something like 36 times an hour! geez thats a lot of waking up. So I got this new machine (I had one before), and it is much smaller and nicer than my old one, which I guess I just throw into the garbage. After I got home from that I got a call from my mother who said my (paternal) grandmother was in the hospital for chest pains. I'm going to go see her this afternoon, but she is expected to be just fine, just staying overnight in the hospital. Of course, my truck got hit about a week ago by my neighbor, and so I have been waiting for the insurance adjuster to come out, which he finally did today! He told me it would be half the cost that the Auto body shop said, so that might get very legally, but we will see I guess.

And thats all I got! It has been a wild day, hope yours is going better!

Getting Back into the swing!

Posted by LoganAvatar @ 7:48 AM

Trying to get back into the swing of things, and in doing so, want to promote my buddy's website, HaikuVillage.com. I am going to see if there is a way to add badges to the right side of this site for it.
